Reiki

There are moments in our lives when we feel incomplete… unfocused… directionless and wanting… without really knowing what is missing.

These are the times to look inside. These moments are telling us to stop… look around us… take stock… breathe deeply… see life from a different perspective… to be in silence… and find that barely trodden path… They are times to focus… centre… rebalance and become whole again.

The word Reiki is a Japanese term born from the Indian Sanskrit for Universal energy. The word Ki, originally chit in Sanskrit means “pure consciousness,” “pure thought,” and “to comprehend.” It also refers to the true nature of the Self. Chit is the foundation for various states of consciousness. God healing or divine healing originated in India and remained there until a Japanese priest called Usui undertook a meditative task to rediscover the lost healing art. He was of course successful, which resulted in the form we know today as Reiki.

This energy is present in all things throughout the universe. In any living body, the energy traverses superhighways known as meridian lines, intersecting at points called Chakra, a Sanskrit word for wheel where the energy spins in a circular motion. The word Chakra is probably one of the most familiar terms where subtle energy is concerned, bringing to mind the familiar image of seven coloured discs running from the base of the torso to the top of the head.

There are many variations of Reiki, but in essence Reiki treatments can help the body emotionally, physically and spiritually. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system. Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of his or her life. Reiki is often used alongside conventional treatments as a complementary therapy and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery. The practice is taught by Reiki masters and master, teachers who have trained in the tradition, passed on in person from master to student.
